Homeowners are often influenced by plenty of pesky myths when it comes to caring for their home furnace. While they think they’re doing things right, they may be actually jeopardizing their comfort and home even without realizing it.

In this two-minute read, Quality Heating, Cooling & Plumbing will set the record straight on four of the most common furnace maintenance myths.

Regular maintenance is not necessary for modern furnaces.

Modern furnaces are too tough and robust that they don’t need regular maintenance, right? Wrong! A furnace (no matter how new or powerful it is) needs regular maintenance to ensure it’s operating at its highest efficiency. Paying serious attention to furnace maintenance prolongs the life of your unit and saves you money on your energy costs.

I only need to change my furnace filter twice a year.

While there’s no hard and fast rule when it comes to furnace filter replacement, we’re pretty sure it’s more often than you think. Many HVAC specialists would advise you to change your filter a couple of times a year, but it should actually be replaced as soon as it becomes excessively dirty as it already obstructs proper airflow. Especially in the cold winter months, you need to have a proactive plan of replacing your furnace filter more frequently.

I don’t need a new furnace as long as my existing unit still works.

Your furnace undoubtedly needs repairs every once in a while. However, if you’re doing it too frequently, it may be high time for you to invest in a  new furnace. A modern furnace saves you money on your energy costs. Just in case you’re not aware, running an older furnace contributes to pollution.

Now that we have dispelled these unfortunate myths, you have the knowledge and power to care for your home furnace!

Call us at Quality Heating, Cooling & Plumbing if you know some other myths that need busting!
